It is almost a cliché to say that Bokar is one of the most beautiful forts of Dubrovnik. Its intended role was the defence of the Pile gate. It stands high on a natural outcrop with the sea washing against the rock below. Michelozzo also designed this impressive building. Building began in the 15th century, in 1461 to be precise, and apart from some improvements to the roof in 1570 the Bokar fortress has stood through the centuries just as you see it today.
Among many other Game of Thrones locations, the Bokar Fortress features in Season 2: Tyron and Lord Varys stand on the ramparts looking out to sea while planning the defence of King’s Landing.
